A Filler Article

Bruised But Not Beaten.

Aftershocks are still plaguing Island Bay after a magnitude 6.3 earthquake hit the area last month. At just 10 metres below the surface, the quake caused structural damage throughout the suburb. Roads were destroyed as the tarmac twisted into ribbons and many residents are still without permanent accommodation, but for those with houses still in one piece, life is returning to normal.

The recent introduction of the Nyx Network to Wellington water has provided the disrupted area with a dependable lifeline to support and amenities.

Nyx uses enhanced proteins that can be added to any body of water, which is then consumed or bathed in, in order to connect to the digital network. The fluidity of this network and the widespread nature of Wellington’s waterways make it an ideal back-up to the existing wireless transmitters that are easily disturbed. The Island Bay earthquake is the first opportunity Wellington Water Co-operative has had to trial their post-disaster relief scheme for the Network, and with results like this Nyx could soon be a permanent fixture in all of New Zealand’s waterways.

Island Bay is connected but not yet on solid ground. Donations can still be made through the Red Cross site http://www.redcross.org.nz/
