Chimera Critique

Chimera.

The “Chimera” group was chosen as a critique subject due to the underlying philosophy shared with us. The significant issue with Chimera’s work was the medium chosen for presentation, Chimera chose to display their work as unclear, poorly directed video clips which were both confusing and had no clear direction. Voiceovers were unclear and unstructured, the website offered little introductory information for the viewer to gain a concrete understanding of the groups philosophy.

Along with the video, Chimera chose to display detail pictures of the works. These pictures were beautifully shot, and aesthetically were pleasing. Though beautiful, the images were not captioned, neither in any particular order to address the intention of the concept.

Chimera interestingly separated the group into three sections, which were each involved in addressing the main concern at different stages. This technique was effectively used to segment the larger concept into focused sections that allowed the audience to easily understand the project. Dividing the topic into different areas allowed us to analyse our philosophy at much greater detail and understand our direction.

Chimera used Tumblr as their blogging platform. They understood how to use Tumblr effectively to structure and organise their posts. Using “tags”, Chimera catalogued their posts into topics and authors that made the material extremely easy to find.
