Check out this website, it is about Sacred Water and myths about it - it is pretty cool how they think that everything was created from water. "We have created every living thing from water."
It also shows how water relates to religion and how each religious group regards water as a sacred substance which gives or provides certain things to people. For example, "In India, the sacred River Ganges embodies for Hindus the water of life."
I don't know if we are still including religion and the "proper" use but this could be a cool idea to play with?
